SQAD - Safety/Quality Assurance and Demonstration

Efficient life cycle process and product qualification

A project specific SQAD case and its associated reports along with the project life cycle SQAD plan, provides specific qualification demonstration with rational arguments and traceable evidence in support of project milestone decisions and licensing/safety demonstration.

The SQAD methodology is based on a safety case approach where different safety/quality areas with claims/subclaims and corresponding arguments supply the structured and integrated methodology needed to effectively assess and demonstrate safety/quality as well as to identify, reduce and control risks.

SQAD has been successfully applied in large Nuclear Power Plant modernization projects in Sweden.

Generella SQAD areas:

  • Scope and Definitions
  • Quality Assurance, with Design Control Processes, V&V and CM
  • Assumptions, Prerequisites and Requirements for Plant Safety Assurance
  • Design version and status
  • Design Qualification
  • Organization and Competence Assurance
  • Installation and Plant Integration
  • Documentation (including Safety Reporting)
  •

    Customer values:

  • Efficient life cycle management of project and product quality
  • Transparent and traceable safety/quality assessment and demonstration
  • Effective communication between licensee, supplier, safety reviewers and regulators
  • Confidence in project completion with achievement of quality & safety goals
  •
